. The importance of an institution like the Museum to give credit and future to community engaged art practice. "All the people we worked with, without exception, showed goodwill, open-mindedness, generosity. And they all want more of what MMA could provide!"
. Extend the work of artists with organizers to go beyond helping to create a campaign, into helping to generate and deepen adequate content as well as reaching people through alternative ways.
"We did not create the content of each sculpture. But the content was not only created by the participants. It was heavily influenced more than once by the institution the participants came from or the way they were educated to talk publicly. We had to motivate people to ask questions as opposed to write good thoughts for example."
. Inter-generational necessity
. "Something in the making: some of the Capitol elements, on which young folks worked for days and days, were very close to reaching achievement and deep meaning. I will not use the word beauty. It would bring us back to bare base. It seems to us that the "in the making" quality of such projects is essential to stress when one applies for grants or other sources of money. It situates the work in a contextualized history with a past and a future, absent of cultural, judgmental epithets. Indeed, a very educational attitude. And it keeps the door open for patience and hope."
."The leadership divide is still so present, where most recipients of our offerings were African-American and most leaders (for lack of a better word) were Caucasian."
