March 11- 26, 2013
- LODGING: we are staying in town, at a former MMA employee and supporter of the museum.
- THE GARDEN: creating, improvising, installing, meeting outside all day, every day ... burning hot as at the beach during the day, freezing as soon as the sun is down, and a historic hailstorm !
It is spring break. Each day is dedicated to a specific group. Performing groups take the opportunity to use the Garden as a stage: M!A is here everyday, Belhaven classes take place here.
- MUSEUM TOURS and conversations about today's art.
- RULES for each day: fluid conversation; gravitate around the structure of the day; cross-pollinate from one structure to the next; take staged pictures around the structure of the day; record nutshells of Conversation, Creativity and Community dialogues; encourage participation and continuity of the blog; specific interviews.
- 10-12am: CONVERSATION: a subject is proposed although conversations can be impromptu, or directed or develop like story circles. Many have a lot to say and many have a lot to hear. The artists team acts as facilitator.
- 1-3pm: CREATIVITY: proposed activities and workshops, development of artworks and additions to pieces already in the MMA Garden. The artists team is offering its skills and solutions when needed.
- 5:30-7pm: COMMUNITY: propositions, forums, events, presentations led by the participating organizations, around subjects discussed with the artists team or which were raised during the morning conversations.
- RANDOM MEANINGFUL THOUGHS
. generate foot traffic
. Farish St as a state of mind
. take advantage of the 'laid back' culture
. "I am a guest in the White world here"
. police repression always escalates when there is urban development
. "we are part of our suffering. Hate can consume us"
. as planned, the commissioned artists are loosing authorship and leadership, but their presence here maybe more and more necessary. Collective excellence seems to have found a rich ground here and it is taking root.
. the work of art is geared to the unknown. All along its development there is a schedule but not an agenda. There are offerings of techniques and exchanges of knowledge, but what will be used past the time of the project we do not know. Art practice as stimulator of adventures. The present digital catalogue seen as part of the artwork? As a manual to inspire other community engaged social practices in the arts.
. art practice as collective labor, not only process. Results needs to be shown.
. a visitor brings a sculpted eagle to add to the Capitol.
